Shop Your Closet Part 3: How to Use Summer Pieces in the Colder Months

It’s the last installment of Shop Your Closet!! While I may be partial to my baby, the Vintage Lookbook Spotlight, I have loved finding ways to use what I have in my closet while the weather is still a little colder. Even though the first day of Spring has come and gone, it is still a chilly March here in Indy! I’m using this last part in this series to showcase some fun pieces and help you diversify your wardrobe!

FULL DISCLAIMER: I’m aware that the state of the world is completely crazy right now. I hope that this post helps you find some joy in using what you have, save some money, and be a little place of peace and fun during this time. Can’t wait to get back out in Indy and try some new places for you!

Shorts

I know what you’re thinking: shorts do not work in the colder months. But hear me out, with the right pieces paired with them, you can make it work! Obviously since it’s closer to spring weather these make more sense now. In the past I’ve always paired denim shorts with tights and combat boots for a grungy look that still helps you stay warm. But this year, my current obsession is biker shorts! My favorite ones are from AH Collection and I love how versatile they are and they can definitely be dressed up or down. I love pairing them with a chic sweater to run errands or hang out with friends, but I also sometimes pair them with a sweatshirt to keep it cozy and casual around the house or wear them for workouts that are a little lighter like yoga or Pilates. Biker shorts come in every color imaginable and I’ll definitely be wearing them with crop tops in the summer.

Fun Pants

As a long legged gal, I always struggle when it comes to finding pants that fit me. This is one of the main reasons I don’t wear jeans (the other big reason being I hate the color blue - weird, I know). But apparently it’s still not socially acceptable to wear sweatpants everywhere and anywhere so I have to find some options that are appropriate AND cute. This is when I gravitate towards printed pants - I own maybe 3 pairs of jeans and over 10 pairs of printed pants if that tells you anything about my preferences. Before you get too scared and think that there’s only so many things that go with printed pants, I want to let you know I’ve found so many ways to style them! I love wearing my favorite floral printed pants with a sweater and boots, or a tank top and some Birkenstocks. I also love solid colored pants that may have a fun cut like a bell bottom or wide leg. These kinds of pants help lengthen my already long legs and are definitely a conversation starter that will leave you being remembered.

Body Suits

This is an item I need more of in my closet! I’ve recently fell in love with body suits and find them such a great addition to my cold weather wardrobe. You know when you’re wearing a t-shirt or crop top and find yourself getting cold because that little bit of tummy is showing? This is where a body suit would be perfect - it tucks right in and doesn’t budge. I even went a little crazy and used my swim suit as a body suit and it looks great with a cardigan and jeans! You could even pair them with a skirt to dress them up a little more and not have to worry about looking frumpy or like you just threw an outfit together (even if that’s the truth).

I hope you enjoyed shopping your closet with me and finding some ways to create cute looks without spending any money! Stay tuned for my next series, it’s going to be all things Indy and I’m so excited!

What things are you looking forward to wearing this summer?
