Vintage Lookbook Spotlight #3 - Mission 27 Resale

It’s the final installment of my quarterly series, Vintage Lookbook Spotlight! I’ve had so much fun doing these and I can’t wait to bring them back next year, but I am especially excited for the other series I have planned for 2020! If you haven’t seen a Vintage Lookbook Spotlight, let me explain: each month I hit up a thrift store or secondhand shop and try and find at least 3 pieces that align with the latest trends, fill a gap in my closet, or are a hidden classic I didn’t have yet. I usually try to keep it under $20 to $25 to challenge myself even more. This month, I hit up a new place in Fountain Square called Mission 27 Resale that is actually a little further down from Goodwill on Shelby St.

Mission 27 Resale is run by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and is named after his feast day on September 27th. This saint was known for his advocacy and assistance with the poor and I’ve actually been to a St. Vincent de Paul thrift store back home in Iowa. Mission 27 Resale aims to raise money for local food pantries and fund their Changing Live’s program that helps those in poverty with their motto “good things for good purpose”. Like Goodwill, you can donate items to them and their website has a list of needs. One unique thing about them is you can actually shop their eBay page if you can’t make it in store! I really liked visiting Mission 27 Resale, and it seems like they are going to put a coffee shop inside which gives me even further incentive to shop.

The first item I found was this incredible skirt! In my last Vintage Lookbook Spotlight blog post, I talked about the midi skirt and how it was one of the most trendy pieces this season. This skirt is the perfect length and has this amazing Picasso inspired print on it, but I like it because it’s not too busy or overwhelming. The art lover and history major in me was ecstatic about this print and I feel like it is a unique addition to my closet. The best part is it was only $4.99, and it seemed like it was a brand that is carried at Target so this was a very good deal. I paired it with a basic cream waffle knit top but this could literally go with any color sweater or top, and even be dressed with a tank top in the summer since the fabric is light and breezy.

I tend to steer clear from the shoe section of thrift stores for multiple reasons (feet kind of smell, not usually very cute, etc.) but since this was a newer location, I decided to see if they had any options. I found these awesome wedge sneakers, because I need to add a little more height to myself, and they are in this neutral beige color that can go with anything. I love that they can dress up a more casual outfit, like Spanx leggings and a sherpa vest, or even jeans and a cute jacket. Even though they are a size 10 and I’m generally a 7.5 or 8, I couldn’t pass them up when I saw they were $6.99 and I can get away with wearing some thicker socks and tightening the laces.

The last item I found was one of those classic pieces that I was missing from my closet and that is a basic white long sleeve top with black stripes. The best part of thrifted clothing is it’s usually a little worn in and washed so it is perfectly comfy and cozy and that’s exactly what happened to this shirt. It is buttery soft and I want to live in it forever. However, even with this in mind, it should be common sense to always wash everything you get from the thrift store before wearing it out. This shirt can literally be paired with anything, but let’s be honest, I’m really just excited to wear it to sleep in for the next few weeks of winter.
