Be An At Home Barista: Homemade Coffee Recipes

I know we all have our vices in life, and mine is definitely coffee. My morning does not feel right if I haven’t had my coffee by at least 9 o’clock and I love trying out different drinks at Starbucks. Life is definitely made better since my boo works at a Starbies and brings home all kinds of delicious beverages all the time, but I know not everyone has this luxury. Today I bring you all the tips and tricks you need to be an at home barista and make your own coffee favorites at home!

You definitely don’t need an expensive espresso machine to make these at home, just a basic coffee maker or pour over set up, which is what I personally use. Pour over is super easy and doesn’t take up much space so I love this method of brewing coffee at home. I’ll list the things you need right here:

  • Gooseneck kettle

  • Pour over mug

  • Any size coffee mug and tumbler

  • Coffee filters

  • Espresso coffee grounds (we recommend taking a bag of your preferred beans to the store and grinding them in the way you like)

  • Your preferred milk (we use coconut or oat milk - make sure it is warm or steamed)

  • Any flavor latte syrup

AT HOME COFFEE RECIPES

  • | Iced Coffee

    • 1 - Using twice the amount of coffee grounds you normally would use, brew the coffee into a tumbler with the pour over or drip coffee method. Make sure you’re still using hot water since you’ll be using a lot of ice.

    • 2 - Leave the tumbler half full of coffee and fill it the rest of the way up with ice.

  • | Flavored Lattes

    • 1 - Pour any kind of flavored syrup into the bottom of your mug, just enough to cover the bottom but not a lot if you' don’t want it to be too sweet.

    • 2 - Depending on what strength of flavor you want using the pour over method, use 2 tablespoons of an espresso blend of coffee for every 6 oz. of water.

    • 3 - Froth whatever milk you prefer, using enough to fill up the rest of the mug.

    • 4 - Add any toppings that you’d like, I usually do cinnamon.

  • | Cappuccino

    • 1 - Brew espresso in your mug, about 1 to 2 oz. of liquid.

    • 2 - Make sure when you froth your milk it has a lot of extra foam since that is what makes a cappuccino a cappuccino.

    • 3 - Pour milk into espresso slowly and then scoop the foam onto the top of the drink to complete it. Some people just like the foam so you could do that, too!

  • | Flat White

    • 1 - A flat white is like a latte with more specific ingredients - it needs whole milk and espresso that is slightly more coarsely ground so the water flows through it quicker.

    • 2 - Use the same method of brewing as a latte in terms of water to coffee ratios but increase the overall volume of ingredients from 2 to 4 oz. so the drink is stronger.

    • 3 - When pouring the milk, start with your container close to the mug. While pouring slowly, pull your hand higher until the drink is about halfway full, and then slowly return to the mug in one continuous motion to finish it out for that classic dollop on top.

  • | Caffe Mocha

    • 1 - Heat some chocolate in a saucepan until it is liquid.

    • 2 - Using the same directions as a latte, substitute this chocolate for your syrup and then fill the cup with espresso and milk as normal.

    • 3 - Top with your favorite whip cream.
