Shop Your Closet Part 2: How to Use Summer Pieces in the Colder Months

It’s February so that means it’s time for Part 2 of Shop Your Closet! In Part 1, I dived into how to use tank tops, ball caps, and dresses that are usually worn more in the summer and showed ways to use them when it’s colder out. The grey days in Indy seem like they’re going to stick around for a while (with the occasional beautiful warm day) so in Part 2 I’ll be talking about summer t-shirts, skirts, and jumpsuits that you don’t have to ignore in the winter time. I want to use this series as a way to advocate for your own closet and show that you don’t have to go out and buy new new new all the time!

T-Shirts

Like the tank tops in the last post, the t-shirt can easily be paired with a cardigan to keep your arms a little more warm. However, I don’t really love t-shirts in general. I remember growing up and getting free t-shirts for all the random school events and they were always HUGE on my lil skinny bod and the sleeves were always so strange looking. I’m older, therefore curvier, and now I love pairing t-shirts with things like leather jackets, denim jackets, and even putting them on underneath dresses, or my favorite - overalls. T-shirts are so versatile and I definitely appreciate them more now!

Skirts

As a self-proclaimed hater of jeans, I live in leggings and dresses and skirts! Definitely didn’t want this blog to come across at negative but I’m just not a fan! I love skirts because they’re so cute and feminine and add a little more something something to an outfit. However, most of my favorite ones are strictly for summer, until I found a good and cheap pair of tights. I love throwing on a pair of tights to keep my legs warm while still getting use out of my summer skirts. This denim one especially looks so cute with my combat boots and basically all of my sweaters.

Jumpsuits

This was a little harder to style because most of my jumpsuits are super floral or bright and colorful. I love a good jumpsuit year round because they accentuate my long spider legs and are really easy to throw on and not have to worry about matching a top to a pair of pants or skirt. When it comes to colder weather, I love putting on a cardigan with a jumpsuit, but I especially love putting a turtleneck or mock neck top underneath! This makes the jumpsuit become more business casual so it’s great for the office. I also like putting a chunky sweater on top of a jumpsuit which makes it look like just a pair of pants and all the more versatile. As for shorter jumpsuits that go to about mid-shin, I wear tights underneath or taller boots!
