Indy Activities for Fall 2020

There’s really nothing quite like a Midwest fall; the trees show off beautiful colors, the crisp air allows us to wear the cutest and coziest sweaters, and the flavors of fall are incredible. While this fall looks a lot different this year, there are still ways to celebrate the season while staying safe and healthy! I’ve compiled a list of my favorite fall activities in Indianapolis and I’m telling you all about the precautions you need to know. I think it’s important to understand the risks but also allow yourself to live your life as safely as possible.

Pumpkin Patches and Apple Orchards - There are lots of local pumpkin patches and apple orchards you can visit with your family! Social distancing is always encouraged, and if you aren’t able to I’d encourage you to wear a mask. Tuttles is always my favorite but this year we also tried out Hogan Farms which had an awesome voting themed corn maze! Check out my Instagram post here for a longer list of places to visit. Some require you to schedule a time for your visit or purchase tickets prior to visiting so be sure to check!

State Parks - Indy has its fair share of state parks for us to enjoy and one of my favorite fall activities is going on a walk in a park to enjoy the cooler weather and get some exercise. Brown County State Park is a popular one and is known for beautiful fall colors that you can see from sweeping vistas. This also gives you a chance to check out Hard Truth Hills and sip on some local spirits. Fort Harrison State Park a.k.a. Fort Ben isn’t too far from downtown and has great trails to walk. Another great one to visit is Turkey Run State Park, as well as Clifty Falls State Park.

Wineries and Distilleries - Indy has its fair share of wineries and distilleries that you can enjoy outdoors this fall. One that is close to home is Urban Vines, which has a large outdoor area and is known for Pinot Berry wine, but also has great seasonal beer. You can also drive down to Bloomington and visit Oliver Winery and taste some of their amazing apple pie wine! My personal favorite is a trip to Hard Truth Hills in Nashville, Indiana and you can read more about my time visiting here!

Explore a New Neighborhood - When you feel like you’ve run out of things to do, it means you may not have tried to think of new things to do! Now is the perfect time to explore neighborhoods or areas of the city you’ve always wanted to see. I have some Indianapolis neighborhood guides on my blog that you can check out if you’re feeling stumped. If you’re a big foodie I suggest you check out Fountain Square where you can do some thrifting, too. If you are more of a history buff, the Old Northside is the place for you, and if you’re really wanting to get into the spooky season Irvington is a great place to add to your list!

What are you doing to make this fall more “normal”?
