Vintage Lookbook Spotlight #4 - The Toggery
It’s time to bring one of my favorite series back from last year - Vintage Lookbook Spotlight! I use this series to highlight a vintage secondhand shop or thrift store in Indianapolis, show how you can buy trends for less and support local all at the same time, and share affordable options for current styles. This month I am focusing on The Toggery, a consignment shop in Broad Ripple. The Toggery allows you to consign your own clothes and the items they take in are always great quality. They even have an amazing designer section of the store where you can find vintage designer brands for less. They also have the amazing Laura Walters, the woman behind Style Riot style different outfits together you can shop from right on their site. I’ll be sharing three of my favorite and latest finds at The Toggery so keep reading!
Piece #1: The Shacket
The biggest trend this fall is definitely the shacket, or the shirt/jacket combo! These can be any long or oversized button down, or a button down shirt that is made of a thicker material but isn’t quite a jacket. These are great for those mild fall days where it’s too cold to wear a short sleeved shirt but too warm to wear a chunky coat. I loved taking this Madewell shacket to the Outer Banks on my last trip, the wind by the water was pretty brisk and it was perfect to throw over my outfit and my swim suit! The Toggery has awesome brands like Madewell, a store I’ve never even shopped at because the prices always deterred me, but I was able to get this piece for a really great price.
Piece #2: Tie Dye
Tie dye is one of those prints that fortunately never seems to go out of style. I love how versatile it is and how it can match any outfit and mood. Luckily, The Toggery had a lot of great tie dye pieces to stay on trend at a low cost. I loved this black tie dye sweatshirt, it’s originally from an Urban Outfitters brand and I can’t stop wearing it! It’s perfect dressed up with black jeans and heeled booties or dressed down with some biker shorts or sweats. For those of you who are like me and rather buy tie dye than try and DIY it, The Toggery is a great place to check out.
Piece #3: Plaid Flannel
Like tie dye, plaid flannel is always trending for fall! I have been on the hunt for the perfect burnt orange flannel and found it at The Toggery. Plaid flannel is perfect for a crisp fall day and goes well with pumpkin patches, haunted houses, and bonfires with friends. I also usually find my flannels in the men’s section so don’t forget to check out that area of any thrift store! I feel like men’s flannel is higher quality and thicker material as opposed to women’s where it sometimes is just thin cotton or a weird crop top. Flannels can easily be buttoned up and paired with jeans or dressed up with a skirt and booties.
