Best Places to Get Caffeinated in Indy
Coat Check Coffee is hands down my favorite coffee shop in Indy! It’s off of Mass Ave inside the Athenaeum right up the stairs inside the old coat check (hence the name). They serve interesting drinks like turmeric lattes and also Circle City kombucha, which is also my favorite. I love the seating areas with the comfy chairs that are next to it and there are some labels with the history of the city, the Athenaeum, and the German influence in Indianapolis throughout the years. You can also wander the building and find even more seating in nooks and crannies or check out the YMCA inside it and work off your latte. Definitely check out Coat Check and spend some time in the Athenaeum.
2.) Bovaconti Coffee
The newest addition to Fountain Square, Bovaconti Coffee is an Instagram post waiting to happen. The inside is full of neutrals and pastel towns, making it a calm oasis in the middle of the busy neighborhood. Attention to detail was definitely a priority when it came to the construction and design so even if you don’t like coffee, I’d still go just to see how pretty it is on the inside. I ordered the cafe miele and it was incredible, I know it’s difficult to do it right so I’m satisfied with how great it was. Grab a coffee at Bovaconti and check out Fountain Square!
3.) Cafe Mansion
I’d really never heard of this place until I saw a sponsored ad for a black latte and I was totally intrigued! For October, Cafe Mansion was serving lattes with added charcoal in honor of spooky season. I tried it and while the grit was a little hard to get used to, it was so fun to try and see the place. The interior is so quaint and has vintage vibes but is super relaxed and chill. Cafe Mansion is based on the Central State complex so definitely check out the expansive campus and the Indiana Medical History Museum!
4.) Commissary
You would never know about Commissary even if you walked right by it, and that’s the beauty of it. Hidden on New York Street, Commissary is half barber shop, half coffee shop that serves interesting flavors and provides a quiet atmosphere to get work done, have a meeting, or get away from the city while in the city. I ordered an apple rosemary latte and sat for a couple hours getting some work done and it was so fun to watch people walk by on their lunch breaks and see the city from a lower angle. I loved how it seemed like an escape, because even though I love city life sometimes it’s nice to take a break and find some solace.
5.) Quills
I would live at 9 on Canal if it meant I could have access to Quills Coffee anytime I want. At first I thought it was just a cafe for residents but it’s actually open to the public and has tons of space for working and hanging out. While I’ve tried a lot of their hot drinks, I have broken all my rules and gotten something iced at Quills. Their iced chai is heavenly, the perfect blend of cinnamon and milk with a hint of honey. Every time I force myself to run a mile on the canal, I treat myself to a Quills iced chai because I definitely deserve it.
Bonus: Clearwater Starbucks near the Fashion Mall and Castleton
This place is totally influenced by my own personal bias only because my boyfriend works at this Starbucks! But even if he didn’t, I appreciate that this location is always quick and accurate, and is the perfect place to get some homework done and stop by the mall afterward. If you are ever in the area tell Taylor “hi”!
